Backwater motors are the leaders in innovation, customer service, and dependability. Currently I have 16x52, 21” transom mod V and I couldn’t get a mud motor to work until I got the SWOMP. I get just under 20mp on flat water and around 17mph on hard choppy water. Keep in mind this is with a modV bottom.I can run this thing in inches of water with the 35hp vanguard. The competitors will tell you that the cav plate and the versa mount doesn’t make a difference. that innovation MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE!! I made a mistake of buying a Beavertail on the first purchase. I couldn’t get above 11mph and the thing took all I had to steer it. What a mistake. I returned it through amazon luckily, beavertail was not going to take it back, period. I called Jake and he sold me the swomp. after 3 months of continuous use I am confident in telling anyone to buy one of their set ups. I take my long tail where others can’t go. I was literally beached after pulling a godevil surface drive out of 2-3” of water, and bottomless mud; I was able to get back into the water without having to get out of the boat. After getting my buddy out and going back on to the open water it was evident that he couldn’t get his trim right and was having a strenuous unpleasant venture back to the boat ramp, Meanwhile I was literally driving circles around him. I felt bad for him as he was cussing the whole way back. Either way backwater is the best mud Motor on the market! These guys will not just sell you something to put money in their pockets. They will tell you flat out what works and what doesn’t.

I have a Backwater 35 and I love it! I can get anywhere I want to go and it pushes my Alumacraft 1648 12 mph faster than my old 20 hp motor! The best thing about it has been the steering! It is the easiest steering longtail I have driven and it does not pull me out of the boat when I turn, I can even steer sitting down! I have never loved driving my boat around but now I do!

I bought the 26.5 HP EFI SS and a set of medium pods from backwater and put them on my 1548 G3 all welded flatbottom and all I can say is amazing. I have about 20 hours on my motor, I know that's not a lot but hey it's not even duck season yet. In that 20 hours I've managed to get into plenty of Nooks and crannies the other boats can't explore (I live in Oregon not many mud motors). Because of this I've slayed so many more bass, catfish and coyotes this year. This duck season will be insane. I could go into why I think the backwater is the better choice over the competitors but there is enough info and videos out there to do your own homework. One thing I don't think there is enough attention on is how great the customer service is. Hands down the best customer service I have ever received. I must have called 15 times while doing my research Jake always answered and was always knowledgeable. I even called Jake two days before Christmas and he answered. Ha Go with Backwater.

After doing a lot of research I decided to purchase a Backwater glider kit for my Harbor Freight 22 horsepower motor and could not be happier I had my Grizzly 1648 running 19.2 mile an hour against current in about 6 inches of water and going with the current about 20.7 mile an hour with me at 220 pounds and my son at 80 pounds and a cooler at 30 pounds, the service is great Jake really took his time answering every question I had, he answered every phone call if he wasn't available he got back to me quickly, I was very impressed being able to run the motor wide open and being able to hold onto the motor with one hand, big plus! No more sore lower back for this guy! Thanks for making a quality product that is affordable for the sportsman on a budget. You guys get a A+ rating from me!

Well I just got my SWOMP 35 in this Saturday and I am one happy man. I may have missed duck season with it but just in time for fishing season, let the memory making begin!! Plunged into the mud motor madness this fall with the 23hp SWOMP lite on a1648mv Alumacraft. I held onto my old outboard in case the SWOMP didn't deliver the performance as advertised. Loving the 13 swomp lite glider. It enabled us to have a better season than ever this year! It powers our 1546 boat great for where we are hunting. You guys have a fantastic product, far above any other longtail I have used! I am attaching a picture of one of the days my dad and I had, where we were able to get through 4 inches of water and a boggy flat to get back into flooded timber! This is one of the only public areas with this on it, and all other hunters don't try to access it, because it's so much work. Backwater made it possible. Between accessing different areas, shooting some more birds, and most importantly spending quality time with my dad, the Backwater motor has by far been one of the, if not the best, waterfowling purchases we have made!

Jake, the 23 Lite is absolutely amazing, I'm 68 years old and have been hunting ducks since l was 8. This is my 3rd mud motor and still can't believe how good this motor performs on a 1448 Lowe. Extremely pleased with your motor and service. The 23 Backwater is
rising some eyebrows at Tule Lake. Most can't believe it's a long tail!

South Louisiana bulb lillys! I had no open run on this old log pull. I actually thought I ran out of water in this picture as my boat was no longer floating, but to my surprise I almost went over my hip boots when I got out my boat! The bulb lillys were holding my boat up from floating in the water... so I simply jumped back in and picked my way through till I ran out of water! Can't wait to hit this run during high water so the roots and mud stay clear of my prop so I can really do some damage and bust it open!

I just recently purchased the Swomp Lite 23 from Backwater. I can't tell you how happy I am with this motor! I have had a couple mud motors before getting the Swomp Lite 23 and this is BY FAR the best of the best. Night and day difference from any other motor I have owned! Hey Jake. Just wanted to drop you a line and give you an update. First of all, thank you again for all your help around this time last year. I'm loving my 23!!! Once I learned the hard way that you DO need to have water under the boat, (you can't run the boat up onto low bog brush and expect the motor to push you through....... rookie mistake), that motor has gotten me through everything I've asked it to. The tubular frame saved my butt that day and many times since. I was able to slowly work my way off by using the motor to push myself back an inch at a time. Took over half an hour but it got the job done. I know if I had been running a lesser motor with a strap frame that I would still be sitting there and most likely with a bent shaft. Awesome product!!! Keep up the good work and thanks again.

would have sent my testimonial and praises for my 1 year old Backwater 35, but I've been too busy getting lost in the "backwaters" of Florida and my home state of Virginia. This motor is a no frills, no gimmicks, workhorse. It starts in the bitter cold, runs in the salt, powers through mud and muck and brings you back in one piece. I wanted to enjoy duck hunting and fishing without worrying about tides and mud and getting stuck, so I called Backwater and talked to Jake (the crazy guy jumping logs on the YouTube videos). He was more than helpful and less than a week later, I had my motor mounted on my 17' Weldbilt and ready to go. I can't say enough about the personal service of these guys as well as the quality and value of their product. It's changed the way I look at getting out on the water. I spent a long time building and designing my 1752-V for bowfishing and duck hunting. When looking for a long shaft frame kit I stumbled upon Backwater Inc. This is a home build I did recently. I have always wanted a backwater but could never find the funds to purchase one. I spoke with Jake over the phone about their cavitation plate and prop. He gave me some key measurements for mounting and I ordered them both right there. I had them less than a week later. I must say their cav plate and prop combo has put my homebuild miles ahead of others. Properly shimmed it runs just like a backwater with the cav plate running on the top of the water and the prop just under. I can drive the motor with one finger!! I am getting 15mph in a heavy 1448 with a 16hp honda knockoff motor and happy as can be about it. I prefer the longtails because I go through alot of rocks that ST's would just bang into and I can promise you I will be buying a complete motor from Backwater at some point in the future. I shopped for 2 years with no luck of finding anything till I ran into a guy with a Backwater motor. I asked him what it was, went for a ride, called up Jake; two weeks later I had the motor mounted on my roughneck and was killin carp up small creeks I never thought were deep enough for a boat. By far the best long tail on the market. I've got some serious confidence that although it might not be as fast as a short tail, I can still go further into the uncharted territories. Love this thing, and the guys at Backwater have the best customer service in the business.

I have tossed the idea of buying a Backwater motor for 3 years now. I finally did it and bought the 23hp SS model and wonder to myself why I waited so long. I was able to take my sons out on Youth day to a spot that I have always wanted to hunt but refused to Push Pole that far. It got me there in a matter of minutes with no problems. I had given up on the boat that my father had given me after his passing. The boat is an Alumacraft Waterfowler 15 x 44 mod-v. I tried a 20 horse longtail motor from another manufacturer that was just hard to steer, had to stand to operate it. I called Backwater and Jake matched me up with a 23 hp SWOMP. I added a set of pods on the rear and this rig is a totally different machine I am now keeping the boat. I can sit and steer. The prop lifts super easy at full throttle as the cavation plate keeps the prop at the surface. Not the perfect boat for a mud motor but you would never know it. This thing rips through bog and runs shallow with low vibration. Try one!

My motor was in despterate need of some upgrades, and I looked no further than having Backwater servicing my needs. My whole assembly is not a Backwater product, and did not want to go the original maker of this motor to have these problems worked on. Arlon, Larry, Jake and the rest of the Backwater crew helped me out. I bought a new prop previously and wanted them to install it for me. Well, needless to say Larry recommended that I need more than just that. He suggested that a new top and bottom bearing, shaft, weedless coupler assembly, and I also opted for their patented cavatation plate. So, I agreed to all of that and Larry said he would get it done while I wait. Jake and the Backwater crew took me out to lunch while Larry worked on the improvements of my motor. Once we got back, Larry had everything done and Jake took me to a local lake and help me with dialing the cavatation plate. I was toatally amazed on how this motor woke up. So much more easy to drive and more speed. I can't praise these guys enough. I definatley will buy parts, motor's in the future. Customer for life!

And have owned two other major brands before finally getting my backwater motor. I'm reluctant to admit, but I kicked the tires on getting one for a couple of years. I mean how much better could it really be, right? Arlon had made some pretty lofty claims on their motors. Not only did the motor do what Arlon said, it completely blew my old rig out of the water and exceeded my expectations. I didn't expect to be that impressed. The extra speed, power, ease of handling, no vibration and over all ruggedness of their design is light-years ahead of the industry. Not to mention the fact that they are cheaper than the competition. Wow what was I waiting for!! As for the fish pictures, we owe that trip to the backwater motor, it got us in places we wanted to fish previously but couldn't get to. I'd say it was worth it. We had over 60 fish that day. All fish released for the next time. Definitely no $50,000 bass boats to compete with.

In 4 business days and assembling the kit to my motor was really straight forward. The video posted on your website was a big help. I had the unit mounted in less than one hour. The best was yet to come as I interfaced with Arlon the owner during the trial and test phase of the unit. I noticed that during the first water test it seemed that the boat speed would increase if I pushed down on the unit to raise the prop higher in the water column. Arlon suggested I shim the surface plate to allow the prop to run higher. There are shims and longer stainless bolts that come with the kit for this purpose. Arlon asked that I call him back with my results. He was genuinely interested in how my boat and his unit were performing. Initially with my 6hp honda and the backwater kit On my 12' Lund Ducker I could get 9mph. I shimmed the surface plate up with one of the two shim's that came with the kit and the speed increased to 12mph and the ease of handling increased dramatically. I called Arlon and shared with him my findings and he asked me if the plate was riding just under the surface with the latest adjustment. If not he suggested I add the second shim. I did and the speed increased to 17mph and the handling was incredible with the plate now riding just under the surface. I could steer with one finger. Can't say enough about the support and genuine interest in how the boat and motor performed, Thank you again for the guidance and support."
